Today is Trans Day of Visibility
This day was started by activist Rachel Crandall in 2009 as a response to the lack of recognition of trans people. It is a day to acknowledge and celebrate living members of the transgender community.
Visibility is important for gender-diverse people to feel proud about their identity and to be accepted in community.
48.1% of transgender and gender-diverse people aged 14 to 25 reported that they had attempted suicide in their lifetime (LGBTIQ+ Heath Australia 2021 study).
Jessie Williams once said - "Equal rights for others does not mean fewer rights for you. It's not a pie."
At Uniting Country SA, we aim to raise the visibility of gender-diverse people in the community. We welcome everyone exactly as they are.
