National Sorry Day Today is National Sorry Day in Australia. A day where UCSA stands alongside our Aboriginal staff, volunteers and community members in solidarity. We remember and acknowledge the significance of Sorry Day for our First Nations people and promise to continue to walk toward reconciliation. On this day we remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we now know as ‘The Stolen Generations’. It was estimated that tens of thousands of children were taken away equating to 10% of all Aboriginal children across Australia. The effects of the stolen generation are still felt today including loss of identity, loss of culture, and mistrust. What can the we do today: - Learn the stories of the Stolen Generation - Celebrate Aboriginal achievements - Think about what “reconciliation really means #sorryday #UnitingCountrySA
