Uniting Country SA (UCSA) would like to thank all the organisations volunteers for their many years of amazing support. On the 18th of February the organisation held its 2020 annual Christmas lunch, delayed into 2021 by COVID-19 restrictions. UCSA’s volunteers play a vital role in the delivery of the organisation’s services. They contribute to the quality and vibrancy of our society and help sustain healthy, resilient communities.

UCSA’s volunteer workforce is an essential element in running a variety of sites including the Port Pirie Community Centre, the Parham Street Centre, the Peterborough Community Hub, the op-shop Goods@Gertrude, and the Port Pirie Community FoodHub, UCSA’s food security support store. Uniting Country SA’s volunteers also provide a variety of services to the community including cooking meals, tutoring children, assisting in UCSA’s parenting programs, processing tax returns, and assisting with writing No Interest Loans.

These are just some of the way’s volunteers have supported local regional communities in 2020.

2020 was a unique year for volunteering, with many unexpected changes occurring. From the first COVID-19 lockdown and throughout much of the year many of our volunteers were unable to continue, needing to remain at home to protect themselves and their families from the risk of community transmission. This was a challenge for both the organisation and the volunteers. UCSA’s volunteer coordinator and site managers worked hard to make sure that they kept in contact checking after their health and helping maintain precious social connection during a time when so many were isolated from the communities they work hard to support. Time without a volunteer workforce demonstrated how important their contribution is and UCSA is glad to be able to welcome them back.

UCSA is incredibly grateful for our volunteer’s dedication and ongoing support. We look forward to working with all our volunteers, new and old, in 2021. If you are interested in learning more about volunteering with Uniting Country SA, click the button below to start your volunteer journey
