Uniting Country SA (UCSA) would like to thank the community for their support over the 2019 Christmas Season. During the Christmas period UCSA distributed 154 food hampers and 149 Children’s gifts to families in Port Pirie and surrounding communities. Together UCSA, Centacare Catholic Country SA, and The Saint Vincent de Paul Society assisted 250 families. UCSA would like to thank local churches, businesses and individuals who donated either through the K-Mart Wishing Tree or direct to our offices.

UCSA would also like to thank the Port Pirie Recorder for their support through The Recorder’s Uniting for Christmas Appeal.  This appeal, now in its second year, helps the Port Pirie Community FoodHub provide assistance to families and individuals over the festive season. Donations this year included staples, such as milk and vegemite, as well as Christmas treats, helping everyone celebrate over Christmas. UCSA would like to thank businesses and community groups including Pirie Nails, Nyrstar, Port Pirie Coles, the Commonwealth Bank, Geoff Brock MP, the Port Pirie Council and Mayor, community groups, churches, and individuals for their donations to this appeal.

The Community FoodHub works to increase food security in Port Pirie. Food security is important in ensuring everyone in our community has access to nutritious and healthy food, supporting people’s health and wellbeing. The Community FoodHub provides people on a low income with another grocery shopping option, where items are sold at a lower cost than the mainstream supermarkets, with stock coming from donations or purchased from Foodbank SA and Secondbite. The FoodHub helps people stretch their budgets further and is not intended to replace regular grocery stores but instead supplement them. Food security provides a safety net for everyone in a community.

The Port Pirie Community FoodHub operates throughout the year and is always grateful for the support the community provides. If you would like to donate to the Community FoodHub visit our website, call us on 1300 067 777 or visit our office at 60 Florence Street.
