Expanded community housing support services for Yorke Peninsula Expanded community housing support services for Yorke Peninsula Uniting Country Housing and Southern Yorke Peninsula Community Housing Association Inc are excited to announce the formulation of a partnership with an aim of increasing housing support services in the Yorke Peninsula region. On 1st July 2022, Southern Yorke Peninsula (SYP) Community Housing Association Inc transferred 34 community housing assets to Uniting Country Housing. Uniting Country Housing will now provide tenancy management through dedicated tenancy officers and associated Uniting Country SA social programs as part of their 262 South Australian regional community housing portfolio. Community Housing on Southern Yorke Peninsula have been instrumental in the region for over 47 years with Minlaton District and Centenary Cottage Homes working closely with Masonic Lodge, Lions and RSL. In 2010, SYP Community Housing secured funding for purpose-built homes for people with disabilities in Minlaton, Yorketown and Ardrossan. Whilst achieving registration in 2015, in 2018 it was determined that continued management with a voluntary Board and one employee was proving untenable given the registration complexities. Outgoing SYP Community Housing Chairperson Robyn Miller “After discussions with several other community housing providers, we decided that Uniting Country Housing Ltd was the best fit with our values and with the needs of our tenants and our rural communities. We then commenced a thorough due diligence and negotiation process with United Country Housing. It was important to the Board that we made sure that no tenant would be disadvantaged as a result of the transfer and that all our legal responsibilities would be fully met.” “At the Special General Meeting held on 28th April, our members voted for the move so we can now all look forward to a strong, viable supply of quality community housing on Southern Yorke Peninsula for many years to come,” she said. Uniting Country Housing is a not-for-profit social and community services organisation operating in country South Australia. Together with Uniting Country SA, they provide services to families, adults and children who are experiencing difficulties such as finding affordable housing, dealing with domestic and family violence, managing disability and mental health issues, financial distress, homelessness, and family breakdown. Uniting Country Housing currently manages housing properties across the Yorke Peninsula and the mid-north and in Port Pirie, Port Augusta and Port Lincoln. Dr Harry Randhawa, CEO, Uniting Country SA & Uniting Country Housing “ During our discussions it was clear that SYPCHA has provided much-needed services to vulnerable members of the community.
