About us and Our Impact Our Impact News Bushfire Relief "Being able to provide assistance during this crisis, and others like it, are an important responsibility for the organisation" From November 2019 through to February 2020, South Australia experienced devastating bushfires across the state. Uniting Country SA has an agreement with the South Australian Housing Authority as part of the state’s Emergency Plan to provide staff to assist at Emergency Relief Centres during events such as fires and floods. These centres provide a safe haven for people needing to evacuate from their homes. As a result of the number of fires across the state, UCSA was requested to provide staff to assist running the Emergency Relief Centres. 45 UCSA workers volunteered to provide support in places far from home, many missing or delaying Christmas celebrations and holidays to be there. UCSA’s workers at these centres provided care and comfort for affected people and assisted those who were unable to return home with finding accommodation and other essential requirements. UCSA is incredibly proud and grateful for the support our workers were able to provide during this trying time.
