Australia Day

This Australia Day we reflect on, and respect the views of our Aboriginal community, to whom the day signifies invasion and dispossession which occurred amidst a backdrop of 60,000 years of continuous culture.

Many Australians consider the day celebratory and enjoy the associated public holiday while others are concerned about the symbolic effect on our Aboriginal communities.

Uniting Country SA recognise that Australia Day is perceived differently and see this day as an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the past and to be respectful about the future and what that holds.

Uniting Country SA believes working towards a shared perception of Australia Day with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander partners is an essential step to uniting a nation.
